Role Overview

The Family Ministries Director provides strategic leadership and ministry oversight to specifically target the family system on their journey from birth through “launch” into adulthood. Leads, develops, and manages BAC’s Kids’ Ministry and Youth Ministry Staff and Volunteer Teams to create a thriving ministry that plays an integral role in the life of the Church today not just when the Kids and Youth “grow up.” As a senior ministry leader, this role would play an integral role in church-wide leadership, strategic thinking, and wholistic approaches to ministry in contextually impactful ways. Though a Director Role within the PCUSA denomination, this role would be classified as an Elder Commissioned Ministry Leader and would be eligible for IRS manse allowance.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties 

LEADERSHIP: 50%

  • Role models Bel Air Church's mission and verbally supports BAC's six church priorities

  • Specifically leads to inculcate Priorities #1 (Church at Work) and #4 (Develop and Lead Vibrant Kids and Youth Ministry) into Bel Air's DNA for both physical and digital congregations

  • Curates and oversees the entire scope and sequence of discipleship journey from birth into adulthood

  • Participates in and empowers staff to recruit, train, and counsel volunteers for the Kids and Youth Ministries for execution of all logistics

  • Provides resources to equip parents as the primary disciplers of their kids and youth.

  • Preaches in main services at a minimum of four times a year.

MANAGEMENT: 50%

  • Executes Plans and preparation of Sunday programs and site with volunteers and staff—for children participating in Kids Ministry programs on Sunday mornings

  • Executes with and through volunteers and staff Sunday morning programs, overseeing check-in, program delivery and all safety measures

  • Supervises Kids Ministry staff and volunteers

  • Manage communications with parents to keep them informed about all aspects of Kids Ministry

  • Counsels parents and or students when necessary

  • Administrative record-keeping and follow-up for all of the above

Division of Time

  • 30% Staff and volunteer development, empowerment, and recruitment

  • 20% Strategic planning and designing

  • 15% Family Counseling and Resourcing

  • 15% Communications

  • 10% High level event management and administration

  • 10% High visibility presence on Sundays

Position Requirements 

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree required; three to five years of previous related experience; or the equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Computer Skills: Demonstrates strong computer literacy, with ability to learn and adapt to new applications and systems

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to creatively and efficiently handle problems, using sound judgement.

Accountability and Relationships 

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Supervises: Kids and Youth Ministry Coordinator; Youth Director 

Key team and meeting participation: Kids’ Ministry Department Meetings, Youth Ministry Department Meetings, Q2Q Worship Planning, Long Range Sunday Planning, Strategic Planning Team, All-Staff meetings, other meetings as assigned 

Schedule: Full Time exempt at 40 hours, Sunday - Thursday

Salary: Starting at $105,000

Evaluation: Performance evaluations and job description reviews will be conducted at least annually by the supervisor

Annual Goals/Work Plans: For each review period, Work Plans will be created to meet Annual Goals set by the employee and supervisor

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, and bend, the employee must have the ability to lift and carry children aged infant to 6 years old, as well as equipment and supplies into and out of classrooms. The employee must have the ability to spend time sitting on the floor and working at a child’s level. The employee may need to assist in pediatric toileting and first aid. This employee will routinely be required to use standard office equipment, such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, fax machines, scanners, and filling cabinets.

This job operates primarily in office and classroom settings. The position may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious. The position will interact regularly with others in offices, classrooms, meeting spaces, and outdoor areas of the church campus, and potentially at off-campus sites, including while traveling to and from those sites.
