Role Overview
Bel Air Church is seeking a full-time Custodian to support our campus, staff, congregation, and visitors by maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Bel Air Church is located on Mulholland Drive, overlooking the San Fernando Valley. We are looking for a team-oriented person who will complete all areas of responsibility, while actively seeking ways to create a warm and welcoming campus.
Accountability and Relationships
Reports to: Facilities Director
Supervises: This position has no direct reports
Schedule: This is a full-time role scheduled for 40 hours/wk. Day and Evening, and Weekday, Weekend, and occasional Holiday availability is required.
Key team and meeting participation: All-Staff Meetings, other meetings as assigned
Evaluation: Performance evaluations and job description reviews will be conducted at least annually by the supervisor
Annual Goals/Work Plans: For each review period, Work Plans will be created to meet Annual Goals set by the employee and supervisor
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Campus Environment, with special attention to assigned area of responsibility
Opens property, unarms: alarms, and opens driveways
Unlocks doors, set thermostats, and turns on lights where applicable or for the offices
Cleans all: exterior/interior areas per daily calendar and/or areas in need of attention
Cleans and restocks: restrooms daily
Provides beverages as requested by the calendar, breaks down room setups after meetings
Cleaning includes (but not limited too) dusting, vacuuming, emptying trash, mopping floors, cleaning
glass, washing tables and chairs, washing walls, cleaning carpets, waxing floors
De-trashes all areas, including exterior cans and lots daily
Empties recycling bins into the recycling bin daily
Turns around all facilities at the end of the day to prepare for the next day
Locks up at the end of the day: turns off lights and HVAC where necessary, locks all campus buildings and driveways/gates, and sets building alarms
Planning, Organization, and Communication
Checks daily calendar for set ups and turn around rooms for the next calendared meeting
Uses the Facilities Checklist daily
Communicates with other custodians verbally and using your plan sheet
Attends all daily custodial meetings
Answers calls promptly, including over walkies
Checks mail box and email at least once per day
Is visible and helpful to staff and congregation
Maintains timecard accurately, taking and recording breaks according to schedule
Safety and General
Adheres to all custodial staff guidelines and rules as printed
Informs supervisor of safety or breakage issues
General/passive security. Keeps eyes open at all times for any possible situation and reacts appropriately
Other related duties or projects, as assigned
Position Requirements
A minimum of two years of custodial experience is required; experience in a medium-to-large church
environment, production venue, or another fast paced environment that hosts public events is strongly preferred
General computer literacy, including ability to access and respond to email, access the internet
for work purposes, and use an electronic timekeeping system; ability to learn and adapt to new applications and systems as necessary
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, with staff and others on our campus
Ability to work with a team to creatively and efficiently handle issues with sound judgement
Availability to work days, evenings, weekdays, and weekends, as well as occasionally on holidays

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates primarily in an office setting. The position will interact regularly with others in offices, classrooms, meeting spaces, and outdoor areas of the church campus, as well as potentially at off-campus sites, including while traveling to and from those sites.
While performing the duties of the role, this position may be exposed to chemicals used for cleaning, odors, fumes or airborne particles, and moving mechanical parts.
This position is very physically active, and requires frequent mobility (including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, and/or climbing), and the ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs.
This position requires the ability to see, and to speak and hear, including on telephones and walkies.
This employee will routinely be required to use standard office equipment.
